Services

CMHA Vernon offers a variety of programs to allow consumers recovering from a mental illness to volunteer in a safe environment and at the same time regain social skills and self-esteem.  Our programs exist solely to educate, support and build confidence in persons suffering from mental illness.  Our staff support and encourage consumers to work toward independence and integration into the community.

We strive to meet the needs of the individual, whether for housing, therapy, socialization, training, or employment.

Since July 2008 the Bounce Back:  Reclaim Your Health pilot project has been operating in the North Okanagan.  Through a DVD, a series of workbooks and telephone support, patients who are coping with chronic health conditions are helped to improve their quality of life by addressing any low mood and anxiety issues.  The response in the health and social service community has been enthusiastic.  And patients are glad to find help that is so practical and accessible.

Comments by participants include:  "I can now recognize what's happening and relax when I would have gotten into a panic;"  "I'm learning to label my thoughts and step back and challenge them:"  "I'm learing not to do everything at once;"  and  "I'm amazed that something is written about what I'm going through."

The project is led by CMHA BC Division and is funded by the Ministry of Health

NEW!!  Bounce Back is now available to family caregiveres who are under stress also.
