Since 1966...

Our used clothing store, established in 1966, services the community at large.  The proceeds from sales support the programs we sponsor and the "business" is a valuable training center for individuals wishing to re-enter the workplace in retail sales.  One of our staff is employed to coordinate the running of the store and its volunteer force while training consumers in retail sales.  Consumers volunteer alongside our community volunteers.

Nothing wasted at the Georgette Shoppe

We're not just any used clothing store--our volunteers put EVERYTHING donated to good use.  First, volunteers sort clothing into salable and non-salable articles.  The salable clothes are prepared and priced for sale in the Shoppe.  If they don't sell, they are discounted and sold in our consumer run store to individuals with a mental illness.  Unsold clothing is shipped to third world countries to help meet their need for clothing.

Non-salable clothing is also used to the fullest.  Our volunteers sew buttons from clothing onto cards for sale.  Large articles are cut up into rags and sold to local businesses such as painters and mechanics.  Jeans and other suitable materials are cut into pieces for volunteers to make into quilts to sell.

All profits received are targeted to provide programming, education and services to the Vernon Community.

shopping with a conscience

Whether you donate clothes or simply shop here for the great deals, you can feel good about your choice.  All of our profits go toward programs, education and services for the Vernon community.  Even the clothes that aren't sold are sent to third world countries.
